Staten Island Neighborhoods
One of two islands that make up New York City’s five boroughs Staten Island (the other is Manhattan) is home to more than 500,000 residents. Although it is mostly secluded and quiet it made big headlines in the Fall of 2012 when Hurricane Sandy battered it’s Southern Shore line demolishing hundreds of homes and killing at least 19 residents (as of 11/2/12).
Geographically, the island divided into three separate but distinct areas; the North Shore, Mid-Island, and South Shore. Staten Island has many faces. At times Mid-Island can be very rural, the South shore has beautiful beaches, and the North Shore is very urban with the hustle and the bustle of the city life coming in from the ferry.
